I have Howth pictures

I have posted some pictures from my trip to Howth on my Picasa album, and as you can see it is a beautiful place. I had a long day today, with 5 hours of class (though 2 hours were My Darling Clementine by John Ford) and Rugby practice. Looking forward to September 24th, which for those who don't know, is the 250th anniversary of Guinness and there are going to be celebrations in every pub in Ireland, starting with a toast at 17:59 (get it). Hope everyone is doing well. Slainte.

Aly is a better blogger

Interested in a more aesthetically pleasing and astutely written blog? Then look no further then my girlfriend Alison's blog, "en francais s'il vous plait: five months in paris." As you all know, the french do not recognize capital letters. Anyway, it is very interesting and will be my motivation to update this blog more often.

Here's the link.

Picasa

I recently created a Picasa Gallery so I can easily upload pictures to the web. Check it out here. I have already uploaded some from St. Stephen's Green and the Liffey. Above is a picture of the Department of Taoiseach (I believe it is pronounced Teeshuck) at Merrion square. The Taoiseach is similar to a Prime Minister and the elected position is currently held by Brian Cowen, of the Fianna Fail political party. He succeeded Bertie Ahern. I have yet to meet either of them.

Howth

On Saturday I visited Howth (rhymes with Both) with a couple of people from BC and was blown away by the beauty of the seaside village. We were lucky to have great, sunny weather. The village actually reminded me of Sausalito, where I spent most of my summer. We went on a hike around the peninsula and stared over the cliffs that drop off into the Irish sea. I also had some amazing chowder that was quite unlike the New England variety I am used to. It had full clams in the soup! I will upload more pictures once I open up a flickr account for all of my pictures, but to get an idea here is a picture from the internets.

My house in Rathmines

This is the house (black door) that is home for the next 4 months. It is a 15 minute walk to St. Stephen's Green and a 10-15 minute bike ride to the UCD Dublin Campus in Belfield. Rathmines is in Dublin 6, which is south of city center (an lar in Irish). It is dangerously close to convenience stores and pubs. There are 8 of us living not including myself, 4 from Boston College, 3 from Cornell, and one from Germany. All of us pitched in together to buy a grill, so there will probably be pictures of ourselves partaking in the illustrious Irish tradition of barbequeing in the rain.

Welcome to my new Blog

My first blog! To be honest a little part of me died knowing I was entering the blog culture. However, I figure enough people are interested in my Irish adventure to merit this digital, public journal. I hope to keep everyone updated with my trip with posts and pictures. Please feel free to comment. Suggestions about the blog, trip ideas, and easy recipes are much appreciated.
